2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Change Follows Lukewarm Feedback
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster unveiling last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had shown the need for a more defined game identity.
The president expressed that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to address gamer demands.
Trend of Strategic Recruitment
This announcement follows a comparable action taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the entire text from the president's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last fall’s the game playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the feedback to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our fans.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To boost the outstanding development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of the team. Following some time of conversations, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
His leadership and background in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in greeting him soon. We are all excited to persist seeing the development of the game in the time to ahead.
David
