Agencies in Tasmania are striving to determine a rosy sludge that has appeared on a secluded beach, with some scientists anxious it could be an algal bloom.

The magenta-hued slime appeared along a portion of Randalls Bay about 37 miles south of the capital. A similar sludge has also been documented on areas of Little Roaring Beach and an additional coastal site.
