Tehran is ready to restart atomic negotiations with the United States as long as it is approached with "dignity" and "respect", Tehran's top diplomat has declared.

Abbas Araghchi said exclusively dialogue worked, and revealed fresh requests had originated from intermediaries to resume talks with the Trump administration. He said Iran possessed no undeclared nuclear sites, and Iran was not yet able to permit the global atomic watchdog to visit bombed nuclear sites for protective measures.

Walking a Complex Route

The foreign minister is treading a complex course since Iran does not want be perceived to be acting from a situation of vulnerability, and he consistently maintained that Iran had arisen more resilient in military terms and emotionally from the coordinated strike on its atomic facilities in June.

He was talking at a defense forum in Tehran where he restated that Iran had "an inalienable right to enrich uranium domestically that it will always maintain" – the primary cause of the impasse in the prior discussions.

Previous Negotiations Suddenly Terminated

The earlier sessions of negotiations between the US and Iran were brought to an abrupt and bitter conclusion on 12 June when the Israeli government, with American backing, targeted Iranian nuclear sites in a 12-day war that ended with the American leader claiming the facilities had been obliterated. Subsequently, European countries used their privilege to restore international penalties, but Iran maintains they have not had a significant effect.

Magic Solution Offered

Iranian officials claimed they felt they had achieved a "magic solution" to the enrichment issue in previous talks, when it was agreed an Iran-based consortium with US participation could refine atomic fuel. Each party would have been able to declare success since home-based processing would have persisted and the US could be confident that Iran's enrichment initiative was exclusively peaceful.

It had not been decided in the talks that American atomic experts could function on Iranian soil, but that was a logical implication of the partnership suggestion.
